The third full-length album release from Lapse, Despair, houses a variety of beats and ambient soundscapes along eclectic production methods.

Dealing with much darker tones and themes than the previous two Lapse records, tracks such as "A Glimpse Of Your Own Existential Crisis", "Endbringer, or 'Your Final Suppressed Thought Of Hatred Now Takes The Form Of Crippling Depression...'", and the title track "Despair" have plenty of dark edges to them that present the theme of Despair; i.e. inner feelings of hopelessness, depression, and mental pain.

With a few songs having uncommon time signatures (notably 'Disappear', 'Suffering' and 'Apocalypse Scenario') as well as some tracks reaching over 7 minutes, Despair is definitely more difficult to digest in one sitting than Lapse's other two LPs, with half the track amount of Somnambulist and with each song being nearly twice the length of those on Ephemeral; the title track "Despair (Part I: Through The Breach Of Hopelessness - Part II: Into Total Emptiness)" is the longest at just under 11 minutes.
